Crunchyroll Adds Koihime†Muso Anime Today at 5 p.m. PDT (Updated) - Anime News

[

[COLOR=Black]The media-distribution website Crunchyroll has announced on Saturday that it will start streaming the first four English-subtitled episodes of the Koihime†Muso action fantasy comedy anime series at 5:00 p.m. PDT. According to Crunchyroll, the anime will be available in subtitled and dubbed formats worldwide except in Japan, France, Belgium, China, Luxembourg, Andorra, Monaco, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

The anime adapts BaseSon's Koihime†Muso: Doki—Otome Darake no Sangokushi Engi adult adventure game for personal computers. Koihime†Muso re-imagines the classic Chinese historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms (Sangokushi) as a "moe (fiery), moe (preciously cute) action comedy" with an almost all-female cast. The same Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel also inspired KOEI's game franchise of the same name, KOEI's Dynasty Warriors (Shin Sangoku Muso) spinoffs, and dozens of anime and manga of varying historical accuracy.

Update: Crunchyroll acknowledges that its original press release had listed dubbed versions in error. Its streams will contain subtitles only.

Aya Hirano to Sing Dragon Ball Kai Character Song - Anime News

The Japanese music label COLUMBIA will release a Dragon Ball Kai Song Collection CD with a character song by Aya Hirano (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Lucky Star) — the new voice actress of the character Dende — on October 21. The Dragon Ball Kai television series condenses the original Dragon Ball Z anime series to more closely follow Akira Toriyama's original manga. In addition to a digital high-definition remastering and a re-recorded soundtrack, Dragon Ball Kai also enhances selected scenes with new effects or re-animated footage.

The Dragon Ball Kai Song Collection CD will feature Takayoshi Tanimoto's "Dragon Soul" opening theme song and "Yeah! Break! Care! Break!"ending theme song, Yo Yamazaki's "Sanjo!! Ginyu Tokusentai!!" song, Tanimoto's "Cho Super Dragon Soul," and Vegeta voice actor Ryo Horikawa's "Saiyan Blood." Hirano performs "Cure~Boku ga Koko ni Iru you~" as the character Dende. Satomi Satou (K-ON!) plays Dende's brother Cargo, but she is not listed in the upcoming CD. Tomiko Suzuki, the original voice actress for both Dende and Cargo, passed away in 2003.

Barefoot Gen's Nakazawa Drops Sequel Due to Cataract (Updated) - Anime News

Keiji Nakazawa, the manga creator who wrote the semi-autobiographical Barefoot Gen story about the Hiroshima atomic bombing, has revealed on Tuesday that he abandoned plans for a new Barefoot Gen sequel due to his worsening eyesight. He has a cataract in his right eye and a damaged retina in his left eye. Even though he underwent surgery in January, his eyesight has not improved. He added, "Now I can't draw fine lines." Although he can no longer work as a manga creator, he intends to continue pressing for a nuclear weapons ban and peace by making art books.

In the planned Barefoot Gen sequel, atomic bomb survivor Gen would have moved to Tokyo to become a manga assistant in hopes of becoming a regular artist — much like Nakazawa himself did. Nakazawa planned to depict the prejudice against atomic bomb survivors. He would have concluded the story by having Gen embark on a trip to France to study art. Nakazawa had already drawn two installments of the sequel and decided on a publisher. He apologized to his readers who have been waiting for over two decades for the story of Gen's coming-of-age in Tokyo.

At the age of 6, Nakazawa survived the 1945 Hiroshima bombing and the loss of his entire family except for his mother. He moved to Tokyo in 1961 and became a published manga creator at the age of 24 in 1963. He created several titles such as Kuroi Ame ni Utarete (Drenched by Black Rain) before drawing his most famous work from 1973 to 1985. The resulting ten volumes of Barefoot Gen have since sold over 10 millon copies and have been translated in English, Russian, Korean, and many other languages. (Last Gasp Publishing prints the manga in North America.) The story has been adapted into two animated films and a live-action television drama special in Japan. Producer Northrop Davis and a partner have been pitching the story to Hollywood studios.

Update: Additional information from Mainichi Shimbun on Nakazawa's eyesight and Barefoot Gen's publishing history added.
