The March issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Newtype magazine is revealing two more planned Armored Trooper Votoms original video anime (OVA) projects — Armored Trooper Votoms Case;Irvine and VOTOMS Finder — on Wednesday. The Sunrise anime studio is producing both robot anime projects, but two new directors are in charge of the projects instead of original VOTOMS creator and director Ryousuke Takahashi. Shisho Igarashi (Sora no Otoshimono storyboarder) is directing Case;Irvine, while Atsushi Shigeta (Armored Trooper Votoms: Pailsen Files, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing animation director) is directing Votoms Finder.
Armored Trooper Votoms Case;Irvine will follow the story of Irvine (Irvin) Lester, a repairer of the tank-like robotic Armored Trooper (AT) mecha in the VOTOMS story world. Votoms Finder will center around Aki Tesuno, a guard for scrap salvagers and a pilot of a robotic mecha called an At or Altro (as opposed to VOTOMS' trademark Armored Trooper mecha).
Original mechanical designer Kunio Okawara returns for Votoms Case;Irvine with new character designer Hirokazu Hisayuki (My-Otome, My-HiME, Future GPX Cyber Formula Saga) and scriptwriter Takuya Sato (Fate/stay night, NieA_7, Strawberry Marshmallow). For Votoms Finder, Junichi Hayama (Be-Bop-Highschool, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood, Shin Kyuseishu Densetsu Hokuto no Ken: Toki-den) is designing the characters, and Mayori Sekijima (Saber Marionette J, Star Ocean EX, Jyushin Enbu - Hero Tales) is writing the script.
Update: The original staff of VOTOMS will also return for Soko Kihei VOTOMS: Koei Futatabi (Armored Trooper Votoms: Alone Again), an all-new OVA adaptation of Takahashi's novel of the same name. At an oasis, Chirico (the main character of the first VOTOMS series) will reunite with his old friend Gotho and other characters after 32 years. The project will feature Takahashi as the director, scriptwriter Fuyunori Gobu, character designer Norio Shioyama, and Okawara. Takahashi is currently working on Soko Kihei VOTOMS: Gen-ei Hen (Armored Trooper Votoms: Phantom Arc), a separate six-volume OVA series that is slated for a March 26 launch. Promotional videos for all three new OVA projects will be included in the first Gen-ei Hen DVD.
