D&Q Adds Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths, NonNonBa (Updated) - Anime News
The North American comic publisher Drawn & Quarterly has announced on Saturday that it acquired the English-language rights to the Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths (Soin Gyokusai Seyo!)and NonNonBâ (Nonnonba to Ore) manga by GeGeGe no Kitaro creator Shigeru Mizuki. Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths is a "semi-autobiographical account of the desperate final weeks of a Japanese infantry unit at the end of World War II." Mizuki drew from his own experiences as a soldier in that war to depict the horrors of battle.
Mizuki takes another chapter from his life to create NonNonBâ, a story about a boy in the 1930s who is introduced to the world of Japanese folklore by a old neighbor woman. The manga won the award for "Best Comic Book" at the largest Comic Festival in Europe, the Angoulême International Comics Festival, in 2007.
