Haruka -Beyond the Stream of Time- Manga Ends in Japan - Anime News
Manga creator Tooko Mizuno has ended her Haruka -Beyond the Stream of Time- (Harukanaru Toki no Naka de) historical fantasy series in the January issue of Hakusensha's LaLa DX magazine on Thursday. She had been drawing the manga since 2000, when KOEI shipped the original PlayStation romance adventure game that inspired it. (Mizuno also designed the characters in the game.) Viz Media is publishing the sixth of the 16 current manga volumes in North America this month.
In adition to the manga, the game also inspired several anime video titles. Those videos led to the 2004-2005 Haruka: Beyond the Stream of Time – A Tale of the Eight Guardians (Harukanaru Toki no Naka de ~Hachiyou Shou~) television series, which Bandai Visual USA (now a label of Bandai Entertainment) licensed for North America. There has since been a 2006 Harukanaru Toki no Naka de ~Maihitoyo~ movie, as well as an announcement of a televsion series based on the Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 3 game sequel.
The Haruka story follows a high school girl named Akane who is transported to an alternate fantasy world with ancient Japanese motifs. Akane becomes the Priestess of the Dragon God who can help protect the land from demons. Protecting her are eight handsome Guardians, the Hachiyo.
In addition to the last installment of the Haruka manga, LaLa DX's January issue also has a cover illustrated by Mizuno and a bonus special calendar.
