Kyo, Koi o Hajimemasu Shojo Manga Gets Anime Green-Lit - Anime News
This year's ninth issue of Shogakukan's Sho-Comi magazine has announced on Monday that an anime DVD version of Kanan Minami's Kyo, Koi o Hajimemasu shojo romance manga has been green-lit. The DVD will ship with the ninth volume of the manga this summer. J.C. Staff (Nodame Cantabile, Honey and Clover) is producing the animation, and Shigeyasu Yamauchi (Boys Over Flowers) is directing. The cast and other details have yet to be announced.
The story centers around Tsubaki Hibino, a girl who is indifferent to both romance and fashion, even though she loves giving other people adorable hairstyles. On the first day of high school, she happened to sit next to Kyota, a mean-spirited boy who teases her. In retaliation, she spontaneously pulls out scissors and cuts off his long tresses of hair. Thus begins the long love-hate relationship between Tsubaki and Kyota.
The Kyo, Koi o Hajimemasu manga has been running in Sho-Comi since 2008, and Shogakukan has published 10 million copies of the first eight volumes so far. Radix animated another manga of Minami's, Honey & Honey Drops, for an original anime DVD project in 2006.
Update: More background and story information added.
