Review:
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is just one of those "hate-it or love-it" animes. Its very hard to put into words what I’ve seen in this anime, but here goes nothing.
This anime has one very unique and interesting story, stemming from a very simple concept of a boring school life and turning into a bizarre one. The story and the world evolves around a naughty, egocentric girl - Haruhi - the one that can and will decide the fate of the world based on her mood alone. The concept regarding the formation and recreation of the world is both interesting and well-explained. As a result, the story makes an everyday unimportant task of 'searching for fun' into a necessity for the survival of the world. However, the placement of the chapters is a bit confusing and requires a little bit of thinking to sort them out in order.
The story in order by series is awesome for the first couple of episodes. However, the plot starts to go nowhere. I literally mean that the plot just... disappears and it ends up being a couple of episodes about nothing. As for the parts that matter; it's interesting, fascinating and unique. I loved it all but, when the plot started to disappear, I began losing interest and started to get bored and frustrated with it. I watched this in the order by series first, which was a big mistake. If you’re going to watch this then I suggest you watch it in the order broadcasted, things are so much better that way, the story makes sense and you’re not disappointed in the slightest.
The animation is nothing short of what you'd expect from Kyoto. They’ve created beautiful scenes with attention to detail, amazing character designs that suit their personalities and again the big eyes. The big eye's are pretty common these days so, it's not that big of a deal or maybe I've gotten used to it.
The characters are the pinnacle of the anime, well actually that's only true because of one of them. Haruhi, she's amazing I love her personality the fact that she's always cheery, bossy, kind, and brutally honest but most of all fun is what makes her an unrivaled character. You can’t possibly hate her she’s just way to lovable. Her personality never changes throughout the anime and if it did, it would be a huge mistake. This is supposed to be an anime filled with happiness, and the only reason for that environment being created is all thanks to her.
Other characters are nice a little boring compared to Haruhi though it's hard to hold them in a positive light if you think of it that way. There not so bad, they have there parts and such, but than again there presence isn't really much of a presence without her there.
The music fits the anime well, with perfect background music to go with the scenes within the anime and it goes without saying there mostly fun moments. This part is rather confusing as people say that there is an OP, I however didn't see one, so I can't talk about it.
The ED however goes with the anime splendidly, I especially love the little dance they do i can totally join in if i felt like it, I never would though. I wouldn't feel right.
The downsides to this anime (if watched in the order of series) are that it ends to quickly and in my opinion there isn't really an ending. Also, like I said before, the plot disappears and the show continues on to something pointless. If watched in order broadcasted then there are no disappointments what so ever.
I completely recommend this show and it is something that can really cheer you up on those bad days. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is 100% fun the only time your going to feel upset is when you see it end but no worries; you can just watch it over and over.
Grade: A - This one’s a winner in every way. The way the series ends is also very memorable.
