Samurai X: Reminiscence - Anime Review
January 24th 2008 23:34
Information:
Alternate title : Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal
Studio : Studio DEEN
Length : 4 OAV
Year : 1999
Genre : Gore - Drama - Romance - Historical
Synopsis :
The first Rururoni Kenshin OAV's are a look back into Kenshin's past. (See Ruroni Kenshin series synopsis for details on the characters.) The animation style is a stark contrast to the TV series, and the atmosphere is much darker and grittier as well. This is the story of how Kenshin came to be, and what made him the way he is. A great soundtrack, and smooth clean animation with a great story to tell.
Review:
This OVA series tells the story of the time before Himura Kenshin arrived at the Kamiya dojo.
This OVA tells the story of how Himura Kenshin got his X scar on his face, and the sins that he must forever atone for.
Also this OVA tells the tale of how Kenshin meet Hiko Seijuro, saved him from the fate falling to the swords of a band of robbers.
This IMO is the standard of what a OVA should be with it's lush animation, savage action scenes, a beatifual tragic story.
This OVA tells of Kenshin's past, but despite this being abit slow, it sets the mood of this OVA series quite well.
The sword fighting acion scenes are brutal, graphic, and well choregraphed.
The start and end of this OVA are extremely graphic, as me are literally torn to shreds, or put to a sword.
The backgorund music of this OVA series uses heavy use of traditional as well as modern instruments, that fit the scnes well.
Kenshin is parterned by Tomoe in this OVA, and she is a gentle, kind woman, but she holds secrets on her own that will lay a sea of blood.
This OVA series is saddenering, powerful, and emotionaly charged, and this OVA series goes beyond the manga origins, thus testing the limits of this franchise.
This OVA isn't for the faint of heart as it's Kenhsin's story of why he becomes the way he is, which is a good prelude to the TV series.
This OVA sets the standard of what a drmatic, beautiful, tragic tale of what Japanese animation can offer.
Rating:A Plus: The words of beatiful, stirring, evocative, and powerful are the only words that come to my mind to describe this masterpiece.
