Sega Sammy Launches CG Animation Studio in Japan (Updated) - Anime News
Sega Sammy Holdings, the parent company of the game makers Sega and Sammy, announced in its most recent consolidated six-month report that it established a computer-graphics animation production subsidiary in Japan. Sega Sammy Visual Entertainment was founded with 10 million yen (about US$110,000) in capital on June 1, 2009, although Sega was already involved in the computer-animated Sonic: Night of the Werehog short before that.
According to its parent company, "Sega Sammy Visual Entertainment will strive to become the number one family-oriented animation studio in the Asia-Pacific region within five years." The subsidiary currently has 90 employees.
Update: Since 2005, Sega Sammy Holdings has owned just over half of TMS Entertainment, a traditional animation studio known for Detective Conan, Lupin III, and Soreike! Anpanman. Its subsidiaries TMS Entertainment and Sega Toys are now producing the Bakugan anime franchise.
