Sengoku Basara Limited Edition Bento Meals Sold - Anime News
The bento helps promote the "Sendai-Miyagi 'Date na Tabi' Campaign," which will bring sightseers of historical Japan to northern Japan during the last three months of 2009. As the powerful warlord of Northern Japan, Date made Sendai his base of operations; remnants of his Aoba Castle still stand near the city to this day. Until December 31, the vendors at the Japan Railways station in Sendai will sell the bento. The bento's name comes from Date's nickname, "Dokuganryu" ("One-Eyed Dragon"). Legend has it that he tore his own right eye out after losing it to smallpox. The box is filled with sasa-kamaboko (bamboo-leaf-shaped fish cake), shiso-maki (shiso-leaf roll), and other culinary specialties of northern Japan.
Sengoku Basara manga artist Chimaki Kuori designed rice bags with a bishonen samurai character earlier this year, and official Sengoku Basara rice bags, miso (soy paste), noodle sauce, and sake followed soon after.
